Sprinkler Repair Problems
Water not shutting off?
One of the most common service calls we get here at Milton Outdoors Sprinkler Repair is ” our water won’t shut off, we’ve turned the timer off and even unplugged it from the outlet”. There’s good news and bad news. The bad news is, its probably a bad diaphragm or bad solenoid and the water won’t shut off until the valve is fixed. Sometimes it is a bad timer thats sending out power to that zone, unplugging the timer or turning the breaker off, will shut that valve off and make the water shut off. The good news is, Milton Outdoors Sprinkler Repair can fix it. We have the equipment to locate the valves if you’re not sure where they are, they will need to be located to repair. Also if its gonna be some time before we come out or another company, you can shut just the irrigation off if you have a back flow preventer installed on your system. This will just shut the irrigation off until somebody comes out and you’ll still have water to your house. That way you’re not wasting anymore water as well. Below is a picture of a back flow preventer if you’re not familiar with one.
Is Your Sprinkler System Not Working Properly?
Most of your irrigation system is underground, pipes, valves, wires, etc. If you have a sprinkler system, you will eventually need a sprinkler repair.
Valves Not Working?
A valve not coming on or shutting off, most of the time, is caused by the valve itself. A valve staying on is usually the diaphragm has gone bad. Occasionally a timer will go bad causing one of your terminals to put out power constantly, causing the valve to stay on. If the valve won’t come on, its usually a shorted out solenoid. Also a bad wire out in the field could be the issue, a small nick or cut wire will stop a valve from coming on and work properly. Milton Outdoors has over 20 years experience in irrigation and would be glad to come out and do an evaluation of your system to help you get your sprinkler system working more efficiently.

Controller & Timer Repair
Sprinkler system timers and controllers are the most important part of your sprinkler system. It controls everything about your valve, time it comes on, how many minutes it will run and what days it comes on throughout the week. There are several reasons a timer/controller may not function properly. Power, if there is no power due to breaker tripped or bad connection, your timer will not work at all. Some controllers have fuses that may blow, caused from another issue like a shorted out solenoid on one of your valves causing the timer to blow the fuse. Lightening strikes do a number on timers, if yours has been hit, replacing it is the only way to resolve this. Age of the timer could be an issue, just like anything it does have a life expectancy and yours may have hit that mark, no reason or warning and just stops working one day.
